Bus Tour: Downtown Burke and Surroundings

July 23, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This bus tour planned and narrated by the Burke Historical Society is made available to the general public (18 and up, $40 for Fairfax County residents) through the Fairfax County Park Authority.  (Register here.)  Visit the heart of Burke and its environs, including the old depot (scene of J.E.B. Stuart’s Christmas raid), the former Copperthite racetrack of 1908, and traces of the Orange & Alexandria Railroad, as well as historic homes, churches and cemeteries.  Stop at the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum, and hear how Burke survived its selection as the site of what became Dulles Airport.  Bring a snack and wear comfortable walking shoes.  Trip includes modest walking mostly on paved surfaces, but occasionally on grass to visit cemeteries.  The tour departs Braddock Government Center (contiguous with Kings Park Library) at 1 p.m and returns at 5 p.m.
