History of Burke, Virginia

The area, now known as Burke, Virginia, and the larger areas of Fairfax County and Northern Virginia, as a whole, has seen tremendous change over the years. Prior to the arrival of the Europeans, the area was populated by native Americans. The Europeans arrived in significant numbers, beginning in the 17th and 18th century and while the English dominated the area, there were immigrants to the area from a number of countries, including Irish that helped to build the Orange and Alexandria Railroad in the 19th century.
